The First Decade project is an online resource of material related to objects acquired by the Crafts Council Collection between 1972 and 1982.

The First Decade Project has taken 114 key objects acquired in the first decade of the Collection and has built a digital archive around each one.  These digital assets include archival material such as sketchbooks, letters and photographs, and audio files giving new insights into British craft including internationally renowned jeweller David Poston.

Alongside this a public learning programme and a volunteer research and training progamme led to the creation of new learning assets and research material.
The learning programme comprised 41 activities delivered with partners across the UK including mima, Plymouth Museum and Art Gallery, and Orleans House Gallery, Richmond and took place in 2015. Nearly 16,000 participants were given the chance to discover the history of the Crafts Council Collection and create their own responses.

The First Decade project is supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund
