Biography

Kate trained at Loughborough University graduating in 2003 with a first class honours degree in silversmithing/jewellery. Straight away she began exhibiting her work in galleries and at exhibitions and in 2005 also started running jewellery workshops and teaching part time in colleges and universities.
Kate’s inspiration comes mainly from gardens, landscapes and woodland, photographing and collecting found objects whenever possible to assist development of her ideas. Elements of plant life, mosses, fungi and cell structures have all been used to explore themes of repetition, movement and layering.
Kate likes to work straight with the materials, intuitively allowing an element of chance to take over. Precious metal is hammered or reticulated to create texture and overlaid with delicate moving discs or paired up with gemstones and beads to lift and compliment the designs. Fine wire is also used to create long delicate wrap-over chains and earrings with free moving elements and sculptural shapes, which react with the wearer.
Collections of work include bracelets, rings, drop and stud earrings, wrap-over necklaces, pendants and brooches.
Kate now produces work for a growing client base. Limited edition collections are shown in selected galleries and at exhibitions throughout the UK and Ireland. She also takes on private commissions including wedding rings, allowing the customer to own something uniquely personal.
