| I have always had a vivid interest for subjects that belong to the realm of the Fantastic, always felt the need to escape the boredom of reality and retreat to the more appealing world of dreams and imagination. A reflection of this, my jewellery attempts to recreate the sense of wonder and amusement characteristic of myths and legends through the production of pieces of a Classical Grotesque nature.
The processes of detailed wax carving, casting and electroforming allow me to breathe life into the creatures inhabiting my mind, in compositions by the Renaissance and Art Nouveau feel. The sculptural neckpiece “The 7 Deadly Sins” clearly shows my perception of the human body as raw material. In my own interpretation of the sins, I accentuated in each subject those physical attributes which in my opinion best portray the fault, from the vainglorious, pompous chest of Pride, fiery towering over the rest of the composition, to the more phlegmatic, indolent rotundities of Sloth, languidly hanging at the bottom.. |
