| I work in silver and unusual semiprecious stones, especially ocean jasper, often hand-cut by me to suit a particular design.
Intrigued by the design elements of mechanical items, particularly early 20th century vehicles, I take inspiration from designers such as Carlo Bugatti and Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh. These influences result in one-off experimental pieces with tubular elements surrounding semiprecious cabochons (the "Tubular Belles") and in the accessible "Klimt" suite with pierced concentric-circle patterns. I began to work in silver in 2005 and took up lapidary in 2008, having made my own jewellery since the early 1980s using found items and scrap metals. I studied archaeology at Birmingham and industrial heritage before I took jewellery classes at Bristol School of Art. I do not use plastic or resin in any of my work. |
