A recent graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee University with 1st Class Honours, Nicola Louise Reed's work explores the notion of vanity and takes inspiration from the rigmarole of the daily routines women create for themselves. “The only cure for vanity is laughter, and the only fault that is laughable is vanity.” Henri Bergson Inspired by the above quote, Reed was interested in using a mark-making element to recreate the humorous aspects of make up, such as loose powder breaking inside its owner’s handbag and accidental spills. By combining the two opposing ideas people tend to have of vanity: clinical cosmetics and the notion of a 50’s boudoir filled with perfume bottles with atomizers, Reed has created a unique collection of wearable messages. |
