Micro Mosaic Jewels, Hand-made in England By Samantha Queen

During my time at university my interests swayed towards the possibilities combining used plastics and precious metals in my work and since 2005 I have been researching
various and unique ways of creating crystallized surfaces to resemble geode crystals with these two materials.

I have always had an interest in Micro Mosaic and to this ancient Art form I have added my own modern slant by using unconventional materials to make the tiny mosaic pieces.
The little square pieces seen in my work are cut from a range of materials such as plastics, shells, card, paper, foil, metals, wood, fabrics etc and every single tiny piece is cut by hand.

Ultimately, I enjoy creating colourful and quirky work, and always aim to bring new meaning to what is deemed ‘Precious’ or ‘Beautiful’.

My designs are inspired by the magnificent plant life and endless wonders of the Hawaiian Islands where I lived and studied for 9 months.
